As the Commissionerate of Central Goods and Services Tax (GST), Dimapur, celebrated the GST Day on July 1, it was revealed that Nagaland generated INR 34 crore revenue in June 2022 with a growth of 11% compared to June 2021 which was INR 30 crore.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Nagaland recorded GST revenue of INR 49 crore in the month of May with a growth of 67% and in April with 32%.
Speaking at the celebration programme held at Hotel Saramati, the principal commissioner, K Ashi Khieya, mentioned that Nagaland has huge scope for continuous growth. According to him, there are 10,579 registered GST taxpayers in Nagaland at present, which are administered by both centre and state GST authorities.
He informed that the total GST revenue collected for the state in FY 2020-21 was INR 386 crore, while for FY 2021-22 it was INR 416 crore, which saw an increase of around 8%. He said for every rupee in the government coffer, 58 paisa comes from taxes, out of which GST revenue contributes 16 paisa for every rupee.
“We may be lagging behind others in some ways but we also have a large pool of educated youth who are creative, innovative and impatient and we must channelise this vibrant force in the right direction for a rapid development of our economy,” Khieya said adding, “but to bring this about we need to ensure a peaceful environment and create an investor friendly atmosphere.”
The principal commissioner also gave away appreciation certificates to five taxpayers who figured among the top GST taxpayers of Nagaland under central GST administration. They were appreciated for their timely filing of returns and payment of tax liabilities and in acknowledgement of their contribution to nation building.
The recipients were M/s Chabou & Co, M/s Vilelie Khamo & Sons, M/s Nithin Sai Constructions, M/s Nili Motors, and M/s Methlow Konyak.
The event was also attended by representatives from various trade and commerce associations including Business Association of Nagas (BAN), Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), and Young Indians (YI), the youth wing of Confederation of Indian Industry, Nagaland.
