Income Tax Dept and BAN organizes Outreach programme

An insightful and interactive outreach programme aimed at fostering tax awareness and promoting compliance, particularly focusing on e-Verification and Statement of Financial Transactions (SFT), was successfully conducted on August 11th, 2023, at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur. This significant initiative was organized by the Directorate of Income Tax (Intelligence & Criminal Investigation), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN).

The primary objective of the programme was to empower taxpayers with a comprehensive understanding of the e-Verification Scheme, 2021, a critical aspect of tax compliance in the modern digital landscape. Addressing the gathering, Shri N. Jungio, Director of Income Tax (I&CI), Guwahati, eloquently articulated the core principles and significance of the e-Verification Scheme, 2021, while also shedding light on the provisions of exemption u/s. 10(26) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Through his compelling discourse, he emphasized the importance of prompt compliance with notices received from the Income Tax Department, elucidating both the potential consequences of non-compliance and the manifold benefits of timely Income Tax Return (ITR) filing.

The event garnered active participation from distinguished members of the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, along with a notable presence of accomplished Chartered Accountants and dedicated business leaders. Furthermore, the presence of Senior Officers from the Department, representing both Jorhat and Dimapur, further enriched the dialogue and provided valuable insights.

During the engaging and interactive session, participants had the opportunity to seek clarifications on intricate tax-related matters. The proactive and insightful responses from the department representatives were highly appreciated by the audience, with many expressing their gratitude for this outreach programme that had not been organized by the Department in the past.

The successful event was a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Income Tax Department and esteemed stakeholders such as BAN. Such initiatives, aimed at fostering tax awareness and providing a platform for meaningful dialogue, significantly contribute to building a more informed and compliant taxpayer community.
