The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and MSME Development Institute Dimapur, Ministry of MSME on Tuesday 24th Aug 2021 jointly organized a seminar titled “MSME benefits and Schemes for BAN members” at Life Spring corner, Lake view colony, Dimapur. The seminar covered various initiatives and schemes of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt. of India, which are of importance to Naga entrepreneurs.
L Mongkum Jamir, President of Business Association of Nagas in his address mentioned that during 2016 when the union minister for MSME came to Nagaland, BAN had submitted a representation requesting for a full-fledged MSME DI in Nagaland. Jamir said that today he is happy that BAN’s dream has been fulfilled by effecting that upgradation in Nagaland, headed by Joint Director. Naga entrepreneurs and businesses should make use of that opportunity for furthering Economic development.
Jamir said that MSMEs contribute 29% of the country’s GDP and accounts for 48% export. He said that the contribution of MSMEs from Nagaland may be minuscule at the moment but we should think and work towards enhancing that contribution to a substantial figure next 5 years down the line. This change can only be brought about by the young people, he stated. Jamir also mentioned that BAN will work closely with all the stake holders for proper implementation of governmental policies that relates to economic activities in the State. He also stated that BAN is committed to organizing financial literacy programs for Naga entrepreneurs and businesses at various districts of Nagaland which forms the basic requirement for all business ventures.
Taliwati Longchar, Joint Director, MSME Development Institute Dimapur gave a Powerpoint presentation on various MSME schemes. He stated that MSME DI Dimapur will provide all required assistance and support to existing enterprises and encouraged creation of new enterprises. He further emphasised on the role of the Ministry of MSME to assist the states in their efforts to encourage entrepreneurship, employment and livelihood opportunities.
Selwin Samraj, Assistant Director, MSME DI Dimapur gave a presentation on Udyam registration and its benefits, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and MSME schemes for SC and ST entrepreneurs.
Dr. Yan Murry, General Secretary BAN chaired the program. Benthungo Kithan executive member BAN gave the welcome remarks, while Akherio Lazio executive member BAN proposed the vote of thanks.
BAN started in the year 2013 with an aim to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of the Naga People. The organization aspires to inculcate the spirit of inter-dependence amongst the people which is achievable through fostering of shared prosperity between the members. BAN envisions helping the government formulate economic policies and also promote local farmers and products. BAN plans to promote innovation and start-ups and also organize seminars and events to promote and develop Naga enterprises.
